︎ I Was in a Band
Ava Luna, music project
With Carlos Hernandez, Felicia Douglass, Julian Fader, Ethan Bassford, Nathan Tompkins, Anna Li Sian
New York City, NY
2009-2019

For ten years, I was a member of an experimental indie pop band in Brooklyn, NY called Ava Luna with Carlos Hernandez, Julian Fader, Felicia Douglass, Ethan Bassford, Nathan Tompkins, and Anna Li Sian. On one hand, I never really expected to be in a rock band. On the other, my whole life had prepared me for this. I started as a backup singer and eventually became a co-songwriter, learned and played second guitar, and returned to my childhood roots as a keyboard player. Together we cowrote and released 5 albums and 2 EPs, toured the US, Europe and Japan, performed at SXSW and other festivals, and played hundreds of shows in New York City— everything from DIY basements to the major concert halls like Irving Plaza and Webster Hall. During my time in the band, I directed many of our music videos and art directed our merchandise, photo shoots and final album cover. When I left the band in 2019 I was regarded as a high energy, eccentric front person.
